Ads Gone Bad
As a content creator, monetizing content via the CPM banner ad system is one of the best things to ever happen to both myself and fellow content creators. However, the CPM banner ad system is not without its faults, as it occasionally does a poor job of prohibiting certain ads from appearing on websites, whether it’s an ad that’s not geared for a certain website or an ad that should never ever see the light of day.
You see, I have two specific scenarios about banner ad companies doing a poor job of prohibiting certain ads from appearing on websites, with the first one being a dating ad that gave off subtle sexual vibes appearing on my website. And of course, with that being said, I’m no prude when it comes to sexual stuff, but that type of stuff is banned from even being mentioned on my website, so the fact that AdSense (my ad provider) allowed that to slip through the cracks angered me greatly, especially when some crank could have demanded an inappropriate content citation being brought forth against me. But thankfully, that type of ad hasn’t appeared on my website in quite some time and no inappropriate content citation has been brought forth against me. Now onto the second scenario via the next paragraph.
Alright so back in late-September 2023, I watched a video on the website Pornhub, where all the consenting parties are legally adults, and watched it as a way to cope with my inability to sleep during that particular juncture. And of course, with that being said, I’m sure that I’m not the only one who has done such a thing. However, I unfortunately noticed an ad by happenstance on the right-hand side of that website, with the ad showing what appeared to be a way too young looking female in a sexually exploitive scenario. And of course, with that being said, I looked away in disgust, followed by hoping that that ad would change to something else. I mean TrafficJunky (Pornhub’s banner ad provider) did a shit job with prohibiting that ad from ever seeing the light of day, even if that way too young looking girl was verifiably of legal age. But regardless, such an ad on that website should never ever see the light of day, along with it possibly being the United States government’s guise for a sting operation upon unsuspecting adults who watch videos of consenting parties doing sexual things with each other as legal adults. And if that guise is indeed the case, then it’s just another example of this country wanting to waste the money of the taxpayers.
In summary, AdSense (my banner ad provider) has done a good job of self-correcting ads, so that they can be appropriate for/on both my website and the websites of other people. However, I don’t think I can say the same for TrafficJunky, as I haven’t been back to their affiliated website (Pornhub) since the most recent time that I visited it. And even if TrafficJunky self-corrects its ads, I have and will continue to have way too much going on in my life to even visit Pornhub and other websites of its kind at all, let alone anytime soon. Yes, there will be one less target that a possible sting operation can hone in on.
The battle for righting wrongs continues.
